Each consultation begins with the entrepreneur explaining his idea for a business startup.  The lawyer listens to the explanation, notes liabilities, suggests methods of limiting those liabilities, notes what is protectable intellectual property, what may develop into protectable intellectual property, and what methods are available for such protection.

During the consultation the lawyer may suggest anything from business plan development to possible lenders or investors to methods of establishing and protecting trade secrets.  Our lawyers are familiar with service and product providers small business owners may need to consult in addition to legal service providers.  If the small business owner needs help selecting or determining the need for anything from a designer to a CPA, our lawyers are willing and able to help.  And our ongoing relationships with such providers often result in free initial consultations for those services or products.

It may be helpful for entrepreneurs to consider the following before the initial consultation (though it is not necessary, our attorneys are always willing to work through these issues with entrepreneurs until satisfactory answers are found).

· How many owners will there be?

· How much will each unit of products or services sell for?

· How much will each unit cost to produce?

· What is unique about your business?

· If this is your first business, what skills have you acquired in work or personal life that may help you make this business successful?

· What strategic alliances may help your business thrive?

If available, entrepreneurs should bring:

· Sketches of business logos

· Lists of potential business costs
